“Miya Miya” is a phrase heard across the Arabic-speaking world meaning “100%” It is a way of saying perfect, spot on, all good. That spirit of joy, affirmation, and togetherness is at the heart of Miya Miya Film Club.

Miya Miya Film Club is an independent community-driven space dedicated to celebrating art and film from South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA). Our screenings, conversations, and events highlight stories that challenge, inspire, and connect us.

Miya Miya is more than just a film club: it is a gathering place for discovery, dialogue, and collective imagination. 100% about the love of film, 100% about sharing it together.

When did Miya Miya start?

Founded by Karim Nasser, Miya Miya Film Club started in November 2024 and has since become an important piece of the microcinema culture in Eora Nation. What began as a small community initiative to create a consistent way to support charitable causes quickly grew into a space for discovery, dialogue, respite, celebration of SWANA culture, and connection.

Absolutely! Miya Miya Film Club is rooted in celebrating films and stories from the SWANA region, but our doors are open to everyone. You don’t need to be from the region to appreciate its cinema, connect with its stories, or join the conversation.

We welcome anyone who’s curious, respectful, and excited to experience film together. Whether you have deep ties to SWANA or are discovering it for the first time, you’re 100% welcome here.

Miya Miya prides itself on being a hub of safety, inclusivity, and community. Our events are a safe and inclusive space for all peoples, including our SWANA, First Nations, Black, POC, Jewish, and LGBTQIASB+ friends, and we have zero tolerance for harassment of any kind.

I’m not SWANA, can I still come?
